April Ross

April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball athletes to win medals more than once at an Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman who is a first-time Olympian. Ross will also be hoping for her very first Olympic gold. The next time she has the chance to do so at the age of 39. She remains optimistic that she will be able to win top awards. If we perform at our very top or play well I feel like we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. Additionally, I'm going be relying on a little bit of good luck. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in 1982. Her parents and her sister were residents in the area. While at Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of activities. The prep sports she played included indoor volleyball, as well as basketball, running and track. However, she was a standout at this level. According to her bio, during high school she played volleyball as an outside hitter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). In recognition of her work she was named an 1999 Gatorade International Player of the year in Circle of Champions. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross Klineman and Ross may have begun working together in 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned athlete at the beach prior to when they came together. In fact, she won several major championships while playing with two different partners, among them the volleyball legend. From 2007 to 2013 she played by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Along together with Kessy Ross, she won an Olympic Title in 2009 when she competed on the international circuit. The duo would go into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor clinched gold beating them to it. The fate of the matter was that Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. They were able to win the beach volleyball bronze in the Rio Olympics in 2016. In high school and the years before she hit the sand professionally, Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an NCAA. And her run at the school was one to remember. She was a All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year in the year 2000, a young freshman. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans reach into the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss during her sophomore year, however, she was able to achieve the All-American distinction. The two years following her, she took the Trojans up the mountain and took home consecutive national championships. Ross was an excellent player on the court, and was awarded the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Sadly, Ross mom Margie was not able to witness Ross's daughter reach the top levels of beach volleyball stardom. Ross's mother died of breast cancer when she was a sophomore in USC. But she still keeps her mother in her his heart. Margie is a source of inspiration in her life and on the beaches.
